Banovci is a village in Croatia in the Vukovar-Srijem County .

location

Banovci lies on the border with Serbia (10 km) near the Serbian region of Srem . The village has 479 inhabitants (as of 2001) and belongs to the municipality of Nijemci .

history

Before the Second World War, a number of Germans lived in the village. After the war they moved to Austria . Today the majority of the residents are of Serbian origin. According to the 1910 census , Banovci had 990 inhabitants, including 686 Germans.
