Nijemci is a place and a municipality in eastern Croatia on the border with Serbia in the historical region of Slavonia . According to the 2011 census, the municipality has 4,705 inhabitants, 87.78% of them are Croatians .

Administratively, the municipality of Nijemci belongs to the Vukovar-Syrmia County (Croat. Vukovarsko-srijemska županija ).

Surname

Nijemci means " German " in Croatian. This is derived from the fact that the municipality had a larger German population before 1945. These were also significantly involved in the establishment of the place.
