Gunja is a village and a municipality of the same name in Croatia .

Geographical location

Gunja is located in eastern Croatia, which is regionally and historically called Slavonia , right on the border with Bosnia and Herzegovina on the left side of the Sava River and belongs to the “županjska Posavina ” microregion . The city is 80 meters above sea level. The geographical coordinates are: 45 ° 07 'N and 18 ° 70' E.

The transport connection to neighboring Brčko in Bosnia is in the form of a truss bridge for cars and pedestrians over the Sava, which also marks the border point. Another railway bridge is in the immediate vicinity.

Gunja's neighboring villages on the Croatian side are Rajevo Selo in the northwest, Posavski Podgajci in the north, Drenovci in the northeast and Djurici in the east.

The history

Gunja is mentioned for the first time in 1378 under the name Alsan in the writings of "De conformitate vitae B. Francisci" by Bartholomew of Pisa .
