Maria Alexander

Maria Alexander (born May 27, 1936 in Vienna ) is an Austrian opera singer ( soprano ) and actress .

Life

Maria Alexander comes from a family of opera singers. She received her acting training in Dresden and played for four years at the Dresden State Opera . From 1959 she worked at the Metropol Theater in Berlin . In 1996 she became an honorary member of the theater. During her time at the theater, Alexander played leading roles in operettas and various musicals . In the play My Fair Lady she initially played the lead role of Eliza Doolittle , 22 years later the housekeeper Mrs. Pearce .

In addition to the theater, Alexander also worked as a singer in television and radio productions, so she also dubbed Disney productions. In 1960 Alexander was seen as Ditha Donner in the TV film 2x Madeleine , in the same year she also appeared in the DEFA film New Year's Punch . In 1963 she played the viola in The Thief of San Marengo . In Joachim Kunert's anti-war film The Adventures of Werner Holt , she portrayed Gertie Ziesche .

Alexander was married to Wolfgang Ostberg until his death in 2011 , the couple have three children.
