Chapel on Šiljak (July 2012)

The Šiljak ( Cyrillic : Шиљак , German: peak ) is at 1,565 m the highest peak of the Rtanj massif in the Serbian Carpathians in eastern Serbia . Due to its striking shape, it got its current name. Due to its dominance in the region, the massif can be seen from almost every peak in Serbia on a clear day. On the top of the mountain there are ruins of an old chapel.

In connection with the doomsday scenarios as a result of the calendar cycle of the Mayan calendar ending on December 21, 2012 , this mountain came into the focus of some followers of this theory because of its pyramidal shape. They suspected that the mountain had been created by aliens and that it would be spared from "destruction" due to the mystical powers associated with it.
