The Štadión Tatran is the football stadium of the Slovak club 1. FC Tatran Prešov .

history

According to the club's website, the stadium is said to be the oldest stadium in Slovakia. In 1899 the city donated a meadow with an area of 8,000 square fathoms (Austrian) to the association. In the Mlynský jarok area , the players' cabins and the clubhouse were first built, and in 1907 the wooden stands for 400 spectators. The playground has been fenced off since 1926. During the Second World War , the German troops used the area as a parking lot.

After the end of the war, three craters were found on the playground and the wooden grandstand burned down. The playground was made playable in 1945. A year later the field was fenced in again and the construction of a grandstand with 1,500 spectators began. Two more side stands with 1,520 seats were completed in 1947. After the renovation in 1974, the stadium had a capacity of 7,900 seats, including 2,000 seats. In 2009, the standing room was completely converted into seats, the current capacity is 5,410 seats. A year later a camera surveillance system was installed. The playing field is 105 m long and 68 m wide. The illuminance of the floodlight system is 1,200 lux . Since 2009 there have been completed plans to build a new stadium with 12,000 spectators for around 23 million euros; there are no reports about the start of construction work (as of July 2011).

The stadium is to be converted into a modern football stadium by summer 2018. Meanwhile, 1. FC Tatran Prešov plays its games in the football stadium of the Národné tréningové centrum Poprad (NTC Poprad, German  National Training Center Poprad ).
