Əlixan Səmədov

Əlixan Səmədov (or Alihan Samedov ; * 1964 in Sumqayıt , Azerbaijan ) is an Azerbaijani musician who plays the Azerbaijani wind instruments balaban (short oboe ), zurna (cone oboe) and tutek (flute) as well as clarinet and saxophone .

Life

Əlixan Səmədov comes from a family of musicians and attended secondary school between 1971 and 1979. He later studied music at the Azerbaijani music schools Samet Vurgun and Nəriman Nərimanov , where he studied from 1979 to 1982. From 1986 to 1990 he taught music at the Pedagogical University of Azerbaijan. In 1992 he moved to Turkey and lives there to this day. He participated in many international festivals and gave many concerts in France, Singapore, Poland and Spain. Əlixan Səmədov received an award in Azerbaijan for his last album Land Of Fire, music of Azerbaijan in the summer of 2001.

He is music director at the Kadikoy Folklore Education Center . Əlixan Səmədov is especially known in countries where balaban (in Armenia duduk , in Turkey mey ) is played as a traditional Turkish-Azerbaijani instrument, i.e. in Turkey and Georgia , also in Syria , Saudi Arabia , United Arab Emirates , Europe and USA . Two of his most famous Azerbaijani folk songs are Sari Gelin ("Blonde Bride") and Sen Gelmez Oldun ("You did not come").

He is also a chess master and teaches chess at the Erenkoy School .
