ʿAbd ( Arabic عبد, DMG ʿAbd , pl.عبيد or عباد) is a component of Arabic personal names meaning " servant ", " servant " or " slave ". Abd is part of the name Abdallah ("Servant of God") and is also used in a genitive combination in Muslim personal names before one of the 99 names of God .
In the Koran or the Sunna of the Prophet , the word Abd often appears in the literal meaning of “servant”.
