ʿAlī al-Muqrī

ʿAlī al-Muqrī (also Ali al-Muqri ; Arabic علي المقري; Born August 30, 1966 in Taizz , Yemen ) is a Yemeni journalist and writer .

Life

Al-Muqri has worked as a journalist for “progressive” newspapers and magazines since 1985. He became known as the author of an essay on Islam and alcohol. Furthermore, he campaigns for the interests of religious and social minorities. This engagement led to fatwas being pronounced against him and death threats to be received.

So far, three novels by al-Muqri have been published, the last two of which have also been translated into European languages.

In 2009 al-Muqri took part in the Berlin International Literature Festival . He lives in France.
