'Matšepo Ramakoae

'Matsepo Ramakoae (* 3. March 1954 ; also ' Matsepo Molise Ramakoae , born as ' Matsepo Molise ) is a Lesotho politician of the All Basotho Convention (ABC). She has been the country's foreign minister since May 2020 .

Life

Ramakoae grew up in Morija . Her father, James Koko Molise, was a miner in South Africa until he was seriously injured , and her mother, Mamolise Molise, was a domestic worker for French missionaries and a farmer. 'Matšepo Molise was the second of nine children. Soon after graduating from Lesotho High School in Maseru , she married, took her husband's family name and had a daughter, Motselisi Ramakoae.

She began her professional career as an office worker in the public service. She earned a degree in accounting and then attended the National University of Lesotho , from which she graduated in 1981 with a Bachelor of Commerce . From then on she was employed in the Prime Minister's office. During this time she attended management courses in the United Kingdom and Sweden, among others. In 1991 she started a master's degree in Policy Analysis in the Netherlands. It was around this time that she separated from her husband. Upon her return, she was given a job in the Auditor General's office , where she worked in the performance testing department. In 1999, she started working as Principal Secretary in the newly formed Department of Defense . There she was mainly responsible for the budget. Until 2007 she had other posts in authorities and ministries, including the police, again as Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Communications and as Head of Protocol in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

In 2006 she joined the newly founded All Basotho Convention. She left the civil service and ran in the constituency of Matsieng , which is also a seat of the royal family , but lost in the 2007 election to the candidate of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy . She started working as a farmer and ran a catering service. Politically, she was active at the grassroots level. For the 2012 election, she ran again in the Matsieng constituency, this time winning and thus receiving a seat in the National Assembly . She became Deputy Minister of Finance in the Thabane I cabinet , which was led by her fellow party member Thomas Thabane . With the deselection of the government in February 2015, she lost the office and its mandate, but they at the election in 2017 regained. From then on she headed the parliamentary committee on women's issues. At the beginning of 2020, she was traded alongside several other applicants as a candidate with outsider chances to succeed Prime Minister Thabane, but was subject to Moeketsi Majoro within the party .

On May 21, 2020, she became Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations in the Majoro Cabinet . She is the first Lesothic woman in this office.
