Music style and lyrics

Mac from The Metal Observer compared the style to Darkthrone with a slight Mayhem influence , but Eternity has "its own identity". The guitar reminds him of Darkthrone's Ravishing Grimness , the use of two guitars of Mayhem's early works. … And the Gruesome Returns with Every Night “is mostly played quickly and taut”. The drumming, which often does not rely on blastbeats , is, according to Mac, "often characterized by a thundering double bass in an exemplary manner ". The vocals are “traditional, croaked growls ”.

In contrast to most of the material, Mocked is “played in with a slow and sluggish rhythm”. The production is “strong, without anything polished”, the instruments “are well balanced, even the bass adds a lot to the music”.

The lyrics “are primarily about the death of mankind, be it from a personal point of view or triggered by a lot of cruise missiles . The Lord among us is also mentioned, but not exaggerated, and on top of that in English and German. "

reception

Mac described the music as "top quality, bad Black Metal [...]. Each track is well done and is clearly different from the others. ” … And the Gruesome Returns with Every Night is“ a catchy album that captivates the listener and is easy to headbang to ”.

Aceust from Hateful Metal, however, wrote in his review of the album that there are “hardly any distinctive and outstanding features” that “quickly catch the eye”. The band seems “a bit flat”, and it stays “mostly a bit sober”. It is “a catchy album that passes you by in a consistent tone most of the time”. As an exception, he praised Mocked , "which clearly stands out from the rest". The slower pieces are the better ones on the album and have a more convincing effect, "a listening experience is much easier and faster than with the faster and catchier pieces". In the review of the third album Pestiferous Hymns - Rev. II-XXXIII , he wrote that "I didn't like the debut completely, but even then I liked the somewhat strange and above all independent atmosphere". Pestiferous Hymns - Rev. II-XXXIII is "so good that I see the debut album with different eyes and find a better approach".

In 2009 Rock Hard magazine added the publication to its list of "250 Black Metal Albums You Should Know".
