.Per
.pro is a generic top-level domain (gTLD) launched on May 8, 2002 and administered by the Chicago company RegistryPro . The ending is based on the English word professional and was originally intended exclusively for professional use.
properties
A .pro domain can be between four and 63 characters long. This means that, unlike many other top-level domains, two- or three-digit addresses are not possible. When ordering, owners must prove their qualifications by providing profession , date of approval, issuing authority and other personal information. These are only accessible to RegistryPro and cannot be called up via the public Whois server .
The registration office only checked the qualification of interested parties on a random basis; the connection of a domain was usually carried out in real time. In the spring of 2009, the official criteria for a .pro domain were massively relaxed, so that the top-level domain is now no longer only open to lawyers and doctors, but to practically every merchant . Since November 17, 2015, private individuals have also been able to register .pro domains; proof of activity is no longer required.
takeover
.Pro has been part of Afilias since January 2012 , which also manages the top-level domain .info . The company has acquired RegistryPro for an undisclosed amount and continues to operate it as a business unit. According to official information, Afilias was able to double the number of registered .pro domains within a year of the acquisition: While around 80,000 addresses were assigned in January - adjusted for digit domains that have now been deleted - the number in January 2013 was 160,000 domains.
