The 1st baseball and softball club Turtles Speyer e. V. is a baseball and softball club in Speyer .

history

The 1. BSV Turtles Speyer e. V. was founded in 1989 on the initiative of Wolfgang Mercker. Other founding members were Stefan Waizbauer, Heiko Herlt and Frank Schlate. It was the first baseball club founded in Rhineland-Palatinate . The Mainz Athletics were indeed earlier (1988) established a year, but were the Hessian Baseball and Softball Association (HBSV) attached.

The men's team played u. a. In 1994 and 1995 in the 2nd Bundesliga , but had to withdraw from this game in 1996 for financial reasons. Other successes were the participation in the SWBSV Cup, in which some teams of the 1st Bundesliga could be defeated.

Softball

The women's team was also successful for several years. The Lady Turtles took part in the German Softball Championships from 1992 to 1995 and achieved fourth place three times (1992, 1993 and 1994) and third place once (1995). In 1994 they became vice cup winners and thus qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup , in which they did not, however, take part for financial reasons. They were also voted “Team of the Year 1995” in Speyer.

The currently most successful team (since 2010) is the mixed softball team of the Turtles Speyer. The team grew from year to year, became association champions in 2012 and thus qualified for the German Mixed Softball Championship in 2013. Since then, the mixed softball players have won three association championship titles.
