1000dokumente.de comprises the two online editions 100 (0) key documents on German history in the 20th century and 100 (0) key documents on Russian and Soviet history , which are offered by the Bavarian State Library and by the Chair of Eastern European History of the Friedrich-Alexander- University of Erlangen-Nuremberg editorially supervised.

The document editions mainly present text documents, but also images, audio and video documents on German history in the 20th century and Russian and Soviet history and are aimed at both the academic and general public interested in history in Germany and Russia. The individual documents are presented in full text and also as facsimile images. They are each preceded by a commentary written by Russian or German historians. The authors who comment on the documents include Wolfgang Benz , Michael Epkenhans , Philipp Gassert , Hermann Graml , among others, Johannes Hürter , Hubertus Knabe , Sönke Neitzel , Bianka Pietrow-Ennker , Gregor Schöllgen , Andreas Wirsching and Jürgen Zarusky .
