100 degree festival

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The 100 Grad Festival (also known as the “100 ° Festival” or the “Long Weekend of Free Theater”) is a German, uncurated off-theater festival. It has been held in Berlin since 2003 in the Sophiensaele and the Hebbel am Ufer . Young theater makers in particular are presented with their productions there. The festival and the prizes advertised with it often provide an opportunity to enter professional theater operations.

organization

The festival is hosted and organized by the Hebbel am Ufer Theater and the Sophiensaele. The event takes place on all three stages of the Hebbel Theater and on two stages of the Sophiensaele. The festival takes place annually in the first few months of the year on a weekend and lasts for 4 days. It is known as the “theater marathon” as well over 100 productions can be seen in the five venues during this time. None of the groups appearing receives a fee. As part of the supporting program, the pieces will also be discussed by experts.

The festival is criticized as a "self-exploitation company" because of the lack of fees. On the other hand, there are representations according to which the refusal to select the pieces and the opening of the theater to amateur groups, too, oppose the overwhelming power of the otherwise closed theater market.

Prices

For each house (Sophiensaele, HAU1, HAU2, HAU3) a jury award and an audience award will be awarded. The prizes are undoped and are more of a publicity. Symbolically, a bottle of vodka is traditionally awarded with the jury prize. The award-winning productions are invited once more and occasionally also sent to other European theaters for guest performances.
