Bernhard Dechant (born September 20, 1976 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actor and director .

life and work

Dechant played from 1990 to 1993 as a child and youth actor at the Vienna Burgtheater and in the theater in der Josefstadt . From 1997 to 2000 he studied psychology at the University of Vienna and from 2000 to 2003 acting. From 2004 to 2008 he was a member of the ensemble at the Theaterhaus Jena . For 2009 he was selected by Christoph Schlingensief as a scholarship holder for the subject of directing at the Akademie Schloss Solitude in Stuttgart. As an actor, he worked with Alice Buddeberg , Christine Eder , Eike Hannemann , Markus Heinzelmann , Peter Kern , norton.commander.productions , Claus Peymann , Michael Schachermaier , Tomas Schweigen and Hartmut Wickert, among others .

Under the title The silent majority says YES! initiated Dechant with the director Tina Leisch , the actress Natalie Assmann and other activists and artists (including the singer Gustav , the actors Claudia Kottal , Pippa Galli and Nikolaus Habjan , the directors Nina C. Gabriel and Markus Kupferblum , as well as the authors Eva Schörkhuber and Alma Hadžibeganović ) in July 2015 a permanent vigil "for a more humane refugee policy " in front of the Vienna State Opera .

Dechant continues to embody the red superhero "DaRode" in actions and interventions in public space.

Dechant lives as a freelance actor and director in Vienna.
