100blumen is a German electropunk band from Düsseldorf .

Band history

100blumen was founded as a solo project by the singer and guitarist Marcel Nickels (Marcel van Blumen), who originally played punk and grindcore . In 2005 he founded 100blumen, initially as an industrial project for his newly founded indie label Le Petit Machiniste , where the first release Pizza 2 Jahreszeiten , a split CD with radio interference, was also released. The first concert took place in 2005 in the Hoffnungshütte in Düsseldorf. The name of the newly founded project was derived from a quote from Mao Zedong and refers to the Hundred Flower Movement : "Let a hundred flowers bloom, let a hundred schools compete with each other" ( Chinese  百花齊放, 百家爭鳴  /  百花齐放, 百家争鸣 , Pinyin Bǎi huā qífàng, bǎi jiā zhēngmíng )

At first Marcel van Blumen ran the project alone and played the music with synthesizers and samplers alone. The project, initially assigned to harsh noise and dark electro , grew into a duo with Chris van Blumen (vocals, guitar) in 2008 and signed with the electro label Ant-Zen , where the next releases appeared. With the 2012 album Distrust Authority , the band and drummer Malte van Blumen became a trio. The style of music also changed from industrial to electropunk. In addition to the still existing industrial elements, there were clear elements of hardcore punk as well as various other electronic forms of music such as dubstep and synthpop . The album Under Siege followed in 2015 .

In 2017 the band switched to Plastic Bomb Records, where the single October , a cover version of Koyaanisqatsi, the old band of singer Chris van Blumen, was released. The album No Names - No Structures followed on July 19, 2018 . The rapper Pyro One can be heard on the album .
