Change of runner position at the eleventh 100 km duathlon in 2006

In the 100 km duathlon, a team of five athletes with four bicycles tackled the 100 km long competition route around Dresden. The runner position is changed within the team in a continuous relay . The team is free, depending on the competition situation and tactics, to distribute the proportions of the disciplines running and cycling differently between the team members. The teams start one after the other every minute in the reverse order of the previous year's position. Strong teams start at the end and are forced to overtake slower teams in order to take the lead in the field. The orientation of the teams is possible using a map , directions, markings on the route, local knowledge, GPS and by following the teams ahead.

The following applies to the rating:

  • The route conformity of the teams is checked at the refreshment and control posts using self-entry lists. If the team deviates from the competition route, a time penalty will be imposed.
  • The team must fully achieve the goal.
  • The time of the last arriving member of a team is counted.

development

In 1996 the first 100 km duathlon took place as part of the 100th anniversary celebration at the Dresden-Plauen grammar school . Since 2000, between the start and the finish of the big duathlon, the 20 km student duathlon has been held in the same way by the grammar school and the Triathlon Club Dresden eV. Since 2001, VfA endLOS Dresden eV and the Dresden-Plauen grammar school have jointly organized the competition. In 2010, the 15th 100 km duathlon was the first popular sports event to be recorded completely and uniformly using GPS. A combined time measurement and tracking system was used for the first time. In 2012 the number of participants was limited to 250 - 50 teams. Tracking has been carried out individually since 2013 using a smartphone app and for special visualization such as leading and final drivers with GPS trackers. For the anniversary in 2015 (XX Duathlon), a special route via Schellerhau in the Eastern Ore Mountains was chosen, which comprised a total of 2015 meters uphill and 1996 meters downhill.

Competition course

Start and finish is at the Dresden-Plauen grammar school. The circuit runs on cross paths and side streets. Circumnavigating the city of Dresden makes it necessary to cross the Elbe twice . These geographic boundary conditions limit possible variants for the competition route and result in an altitude of 1000 meters, because the teams have to descend twice in the Elbe valley and ascend the slopes of the Elbe .
