A residential and commercial building is located at 11 Exchange Street in the small Scottish town of Jedburgh in the Scottish Borders Council Area . In 1993 the structure was included in the Scottish List of Monuments in the highest monument category A.

history

The building in the historic center of Jedburgh was completed in 1900 for the Co-operative Society . The design for the £ 2105 structure was provided by Scottish architect James Pearson Alison . Originally planned as a warehouse with loading gates at the rear, the building is now used as a residential and commercial building. At times it housed a bakery. In 2011 the building was added to the register of endangered buildings in Scotland. In 2013, his condition was classified as good with low risk at the same time.

The southwest-facing front of the two - story neo - renaissance building is symmetrical and three axes wide. The facade is designed with cream-colored sandstone . Business rooms are set up on the ground floor, while flat window elements are let into the upper floor. The wooden frames on the ground floor do not correspond to the original condition. Four colossal columns structure the facade vertically. They are decorated with ornamented heraldic shields with the inscriptions "ESTABLISHED ANNO 1866", "STRENU ET PROSPERE" and "ERECTED ANNO 1900" on consoles . Fasciae run at floor level, while the upper floor ends with a deeply grooved frieze with massive cornices . The facade closes with three gable roofs . Its wide bezel windows are worked with keystones . The building closes with a slate roof .
