description
The classicist building was built around 1830 and has been preserved to this day in a largely unchanged condition. It is located at the intersection of Wellington Street and West George Street in central Glasgow. West Regent Lane runs along the back . Presumably it was once a question of two separate residential buildings, which were then combined into one commercial building.
The two main facades of the two-story building are each five axes wide and largely identical. The masonry made of polished blocks is rusticated on the ground floor . The central portal along West George Street is designed with Ionic columns. As along Wellington Street, the elongated windows are set into arched recesses. The former second portal there was partially filled with masonry and converted into a window. Ionic pilasters flank it. The windows on the upper floor are suspected of having simple cornices on consoles ; those on the central axes with triangular gables . A tooth cut runs below the final cornice .
