There is a commercial building at 45 Buchanan Street in the Scottish city of Glasgow . In 1977 the building was included in the Scottish monument lists in the highest monument category A.

history

Originally, it was three separate commercial buildings along Buchanan Street , now a pedestrian mall, which were completed in 1854. In terms of architecture, the central building of the Wylie & Lochhead company, with its tall glass dome, was based on the Crystal Palace in London. After a devastating fire in 1883, the current building was built in the same year. In the course of the extensive new construction, the former three-story building was increased by two floors.

description

The five-story building extends from Buchanan Street to Mitchell Street. It is designed in the style of the neo-renaissance . Corinthian pilasters divide the lower two floors of the east-facing facade vertically. Simple banded pilasters stretch along the upper floors. A blasted segmented arched gable with reliefs in the tympanum crowns the main portal. The windows of the outer axes emerge in segmental arches on the second and third floors . On the third floor, columns and non-ornamented pilasters structure the window elements. Finally, a cast iron balustrade connects the three gable roof dormers .
