The 7.65 mm Mannlicher cartridge was developed for the Mannlicher M.1896 self-loading pistol. It corresponds in size, shape and performance to the 7.65 mm Borchardt . The 7.63 mm Mauser and 7.62 mm Tokarew cartridges cannot be fired from Mannlicher pistols because of their higher performance, although the external dimensions match those of the 7.65 mm Mannlicher cartridge. A clear identification of the three different cartridges is only possible by labeling the boxes. Various pistols and carbines were produced for the 7.65 mm Mannlicher cartridge. It was manufactured in various European ammunition factories and was in trade until around 1930.
