70th Infantry Division (Wehrmacht)

The 70th Infantry Division was a German infantry division during World War II . On August 1, 1944, the 165th Reserve Division was renamed the 70th Infantry Division. The division had been set up on the Dutch island of Walcheren as the 165th division since January 4, 1944 and had previously been stationed in occupied France for a long time . On November 17, 1944, the division surrendered to Western Allied troops on the island of Walcheren and became a Canadian prisoner of war .
