The 86th Infantry Division (86th ID) was a major unit of the army of the German Wehrmacht in World War II .
Division history
The 86th Infantry Division was set up on August 26, 1939 as part of the 2nd wave of deployment in Military District VI (Münster) . First she was deployed in the Eifel , from June 1940 in France for a year, then she was transferred to the Eastern Front and assigned to the 9th Army .
On November 3, 1943, the 86th Infantry Division was disbanded due to heavy losses. The division staff, supply troops and other units were then used to set up the 361st Infantry Division . The remaining members of the 86th Infantry Division formed Division Group 86, which was subordinate to Corps Division E.
