Military District VI (Münster)

The Wehrkreis VI (Münster) was a territorial military general command during the time of the Weimar Republic and the National Socialist German Reich and existed from 1919 to 1945. The Wehrkreis was responsible for the military security of the area of the provinces of Hanover (later mostly to Wehrkreis XI (Hanover) ) , Rhineland (since the Rhineland occupation in 1936) and Westphalia as well as the provision and training of parts of the army of the Reichswehr and the Wehrmacht in this area. The military district was expanded in 1940 to include the Eupen - Malmedy area after it was reintegrated into the German Empire. The headquarters were in Munster in Westphalia . The military district comprised 4 military substitute districts (Münster i. W., Dortmund , Düsseldorf and Cologne ).
