Military District III (Berlin)
The Wehrkreis III (Berlin) was a territorial military administrative unit during the time of the Weimar Republic and later the National Socialist German Reich and existed from 1920 to 1945. The Wehrkreis was responsible for the military security of its area and the provision and training of parts of the army of the Reichswehr or . of the Wehrmacht in this area. The military district initially included Berlin , the provinces of Brandenburg and Silesia and part of the Grenzmark Province of Posen-West Prussia . In 1935, Silesia was separated when Wehrkreis VIII was formed . The headquarters of the military district was in the later AEG building on Hohenzollerndamm in Berlin-Schmargendorf . Wehrkreis III was divided into the three alternative military districts of Berlin, Potsdam and Frankfurt (Oder) .
