monument

The cenotaph measures about 10 meters and is made of granite, bronze and aluminum. It has the shape of an American flag, the tip of which is transformed into a flame. A piece of molten metal from the wreckage of the Twin Towers is part of the foundation on which the monument rests. The piece of metal can be viewed through a pane of glass. The names of the victims were engraved on the metal plate and the circular wall. The memorial is within sight of Har HaMenuchot, the main cemetery in Jerusalem.

It is the only memorial outside the United States that lists the names of the nearly 3,000 victims of the 9/11 attacks.

The memorial was designed by the Israeli designer Eliezer Weishoff. It was commissioned by the Jewish National Fund (JNF / KKL) at a price of US $ 2,000,000. The inauguration ceremony took place on November 12, 2009 in the presence of the US Ambassador to Israel, James B. Cunningham, as well as members of the Knesset and families of the victims.
