Osgood Perkins

James Ripley Osgood Perkins (born May 16, 1892 in West Newton , Massachusetts , † September 21, 1937 in Washington, DC ) was an American actor .

life and work

Osgood Perkins appeared as an actor on Broadway from the 1920s , where he played in around two dozen plays until his death. In 1928 he took on the lead role of Walter Burns in the hit play The Front Page at the Times Square Theater , which was later filmed several times . At the same time, he also appeared in various film productions, where in Hollywood, in contrast to Broadway, he mostly only played supporting roles. In 1932 he was seen in Howard Hawks ' classic film Scarface as gangster Johnny Lovo .

Osgood Perkins died of a heart attack in 1937 at the age of 45. His marriage to Janet Esselstyn Rane in 1922 had a son, the actor Anthony Perkins . His grandson Oz Perkins is also an actor. Another grandson is the musician Elvis Perkins .
