Live and act

In his melancholy songs, Perkins deals with the personal suffering he had to endure over the years: his father died of AIDS in 1992 , and his mother was on the plane that was flown into the north tower of the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001 . His debut album Ash Wednesday , which was released by XL Recordings in the USA in February 2007 , records the songs that were written before and after his mother's death in chronological order. The first single from it was All the Night Without Love . Perkins received support from his older brother Osgood and Oz Perkins on drums and his friend Ethan Gold , who produced, arranged and mixed the album.

With the musician trio Brigham Brough on bass, Nicholas Kinsey as a drummer and Wyndham Boylan-Garnett as a keyboardist and guitarist Perkins went back in 2006 as Elvis Perkins in Dearland to a long and successful US tour. He toured u. a. with World Party , Cold War Kids , Dr. Dog , Okkervil River , My Morning Jacket, and Pernice Brothers . The band also played at the Lollapalooza and Austin City Limits music festivals and aroused wide media coverage. Elvis Perkins also appeared in Dearland as the opening act for the indie rock formation Clap Your Hands Say Yeah and Willy Mason on his European tour.

The song Moon Woman II from Perkins' debut album was included in the soundtrack to the film Fast Food Nation . And While You Were Sleeping , which found widespread internet coverage ahead of the album's release, was used for a season 4 episode of The OC . It was with this song that Elvis Perkins made her first television appearance in Dearland on the Late Show with David Letterman on June 13, 2007.

Ash Wednesday was also released in Europe on July 9, 2007. In September 2007, Elvis Perkins recorded a new version of All The Night Without Love in Dearland at the instigation of producer Chris Shaw (best known as the producer of Bob Dylan and Public Enemy ) and released the single in November 2007.
