Aírton Batista dos Santos , also known as Aírton Beleza , (born May 19, 1942 in Rio de Janeiro , † February 18, 1996 there ) was a Brazilian football player .
Career
In 1963 he began his career at the Flamengo Rio de Janeiro club , where he was under contract until 1967. During this time he was on the field for Flamengo 131 times, in which he scored 71 goals. In 1965 he was loaned to the Corinthians São Paulo for one season . During his time with the Corinthians there were 17 wins, three draws and five defeats. In 1966 he was under contract with São Paulo FC . The following year he was signed by the Botafogo club . His last three years he was under contract with the Colombian clubs Atlético Junior and Millonarios FC . In his career he took part in 212 league games and scored 91 goals.
At the 1963 Pan American Games held in São Paulo , he won gold with the Brazilian Olympic team. He was successful as a goal scorer in all four games of the tournament, which was played in league format - he scored a total of eleven tournament goals. Aírton scored two goals in the 3-1 win against Uruguay, scored seven times in the 10-0 win over the USA (seven goals are a record for the Brazilian Olympic team to date) and was against both Chile (final 3-0) and against Argentina (final score 2: 2) each successful once as a goal scorer. At the Taça das Nações held in May / June 1964 , he finished second with the Brazilian national team . He formed the attack line in the 4-1 win against Portugal as a center forward with Gérson , Jairzinho , Pelé and Rinaldo , it was his only international match.
