Aïda Ruilova

Aïda Ruilova (* 1974 in Wheeling , West Virginia ) is an American artist. She lives and works in New York.

Biography and work

Ruilova studied at the University of South Florida , Tampa and the School of Visual Arts , New York. Based on her early involvement in various independent avant-garde rock formations, Ruilova began to work and experiment with video in the late 1990s, with music in the sense of a special rhythmic structure associated with the editing technique and the sound design of her films continue to be an important part of her practice stayed. Today she is mainly known as a video artist, but she also works in other media such as sculpture, drawing or graphics, which she connects in her exhibitions together with her videos in an installation and relates both visually and aurally. Sexuality, obsessions and violence, as well as cinematographic and pop cultural references, are important fields of reference in her artistic work.

She was married to the American artist Raymond Pettibon .

In 2006 she was nominated for the Hugo Boss Prize for Contemporary Art.
