Raymond Pettibon
Raymond Pettibon (* 16th June 1957 in Tucson , Arizona as Raymond Ginn ) is an American artist .
Life
Pettibon first received a degree in business administration ( MA ) from the University of California at Los Angeles , where he later received a Bachelor of Fine Arts ( BFA ) degree in 1977 .
Raymond Pettibon was first known for his record covers for the punk band Black Flag or Firehose , through whose record label SST, founded by his brother Greg Ginn , he initially sold his artist's books, which had been published since 1978. In 1990 he designed the cover and booklet of the Sonic Youth album Goo . His motifs served as a template for countless t-shirts and posters.
He is also active as a lyricist, singer and performer. Together with Oliver Augst , he realized the musical “The Whole World Is Watching” in 2007 (with Schorsch Cameroon , Keiji Haino and Marcel Daemgen) as part of the MaerzMusik festival at the Berliner Festspiele .
He is married to the artist Aïda Ruilova .

In 2001 he was awarded the Wolfgang Hahn Prize . In 2002 he took part in Documenta11 . In 2004 he won the $ 100,000 Bucksbaum Award at the Whitney Biennial . In 2010 he received the Oskar Kokoschka Prize from the Austrian Federal Government .
Pettibon lives in Hermosa Beach , Los Angeles and New York.
