Gregory Regis Ginn (born June 8, 1954 ) is an American guitarist , bassist and singer . He co-founded Black Flag and also wrote most of the band's songs. Ginn is considered the most influential hardcore punk guitarist and was named to the list of the 100 best guitarists of all time by the music magazine Rolling Stone . Greg Ginn is the brother of the artist Raymond Pettibon .

Life

Ginn grew up in California , where he formed the band Panic with Keith Morris in 1976 , which was renamed Black Flag in 1978 . The members of the band changed regularly. Ginn was the only constant in the line-up. He remained a member of Black Flag until its dissolution in 1986.

In the late 1970s, Ginn founded his own record company, SST Records , which initially released the Black Flag albums and later also records from other bands. Apart from the period from 1998 to 2008, SST Records is still active today.

After the end of Black Flag Ginn played in various other bands and also continued the bands October Faction and Gone , which were founded in 1985 as a side project . In 1993 he released his first solo album, Getting Even , and two more followed in the first half of the 1990s. In 2004, he founded the band Greg Ginn & the Texas Corrugators in the Texan city ​​of Taylor , which was later renamed Greg Ginn & the Taylor Texas Corrugators .

In 2008, he succeeded Brant Bjork on an album by the Ten East group as bassist.

Ginn prefers Dan Armstrong's plexiglass guitars .
