Bucksbaum Award

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bucksbaum Award was donated in 2000 by the Bucksbaum Family Foundation of Des Moines and the Whitney Museum of American Art . It is awarded every two years. It is advertised for artists who live and work in the United States and whose work shows a "unique combination of talent and imagination ". The $ 100,000 prize offers the world's highest prize money for visual artists. In addition, each winner is invited to present their solo exhibition at the Whitney Museum for the next two years.

The award is given exclusively to invited participants of the Whitney Biennial , a talent show in New York City for primarily younger and less well-known American artists. The art award aims to honor artists who have the potential to leave a lasting impression on the history of the US art world.

The jury consists of two representatives from the Whitney Museum management, the current curators of the Whitney Biennial and three independent, rotating representatives from well-known art institutions.
