life and work

In 1983 she moved to New York City , where she worked as a lecturer and online editor for the art magazine Film / Video Arts . At the turn of 2002/2003, Batsry had a large exhibition with video installations in the Biosphère building (Montreal) , which was originally built as the American pavilion at the World Expo 1967 in honor of Buckminster Fuller and is currently used as a water and environment museum. Batsry developed a site-specific interactive concept that made it possible to experience and expand the aesthetics of the “ geodetic dome” designed by Fuller .
Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art , New York and the Whitney Museum of American Art .
In Europe, Irit Batsry was artist in residence from 1992 to 1993 at the French CICV Montbéliard-Belfort (Center International de Création Vidéo Montbeliard Belfort), from 1993 to 2000 at the Cologne Art Academy for Media , in 1994 and 1996 at the same time at the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris . She was present with installations and videos in well-known European art institutions. In autumn 2006 there was a multi-day video retrospective at the Paris Museum of Contemporary Art Jeu de Paume .
Batsry's adopted home has consistently been New York City since 1983. However, she often spent months working on her videos in Europe, for example at the CICV Montbéliard - Belfort (Center international de création vidéo) or in the workshops of the Art Academy for Media in Cologne .
