Ağası Abutalıb oğlu Məşədibəyov ( Russian Агаси Абуталыб оглы Мешедибеков ; * 1912 in Baku , Russian Empire ; † 1984 in Baku, Azerbaijani Soviet Socialist Pedagogue and Composer, Azerbaijani conductor , Soviet music director.

Life

Ağası Məşədibəyov learned the tar string instrument at the music college in Baku . In 1931 he was one of the soloists in the folk instrument orchestra founded by Üzeyir Hacıbəyov . Even during his student days he played in the folk instrument orchestra of the Azerbaijani radio. After completing the technical college in 1935, he acted as a conductor at the folk instrument orchestra on the recommendation of Üzeyir Hacıbəyov. After founding the Azərbaycan Dövlət Musiqili Komediya Teatrını [Azerbaijani State Theater of Musical Comedy], he was involved in the organization of the theater from 1939, first as a tarsolist, then as second conductor. For the theater he wrote the musical comedy Toy kimindir? to a libretto by the Azerbaijani writer Məhərrəm Əlizadə (1909–1942). During the Second World War he worked as a musician in the concert brigades in the troop support at the front. After the war, in 1946, he became artistic director of the Gəncə State Philharmonic Orchestra and then from 1948 to 1949 music director of the Dramatic Music Theater in Şəki . During his time in Şəki he also performed works by contemporary Azerbaijani composers, such as Zülfüqar Hacıbəyov's opera Aşıq Qərib , Beş manatlıq gəlin and Durna by Səid Rustəmov as well as Gözün aydın by Fikrət Əmirov . During this time he also wrote music for the theater. One focus of his activity was the long-term training of music teachers. One of his students was Zamiq Əliyev (* 1950). In 1963 he was awarded the honorary title of Honored Artist of the Azerbaijani SSR .

Works (selection)

Ağası Məşədibəyov wrote the musical comedy Toy kimindir? various works for orchestra. These include the Bayram Suite , the Mugham Şur and Çaharga h suites and Rəqs fantaziyası [dance fantasy]. He wrote works over 50 songs, many of which are still popular in Azerbaijan today. These included Azərbaycanı sevdim [I love Azerbaijan], Üç gül [Three flowers], Bakı [Baku], Hardasan? , and Doymur ürək.
