Zülfüqar Hacibəyov

Zülfüqar Əbdülhüseyn oğlu Hacıbəyov (also Zülfüqar Hacıbəyov , Russian Зульфугар Абдул-Гусейн оглы Гаджибеков * 17th April 1884 in Shusha , Russian Empire ; † 30th October 1950 ) was an Azerbaijani composer.

life and work

Zülfüqar Hacıbəyov grew up in his native Şuşa and was influenced by the local musical life there from an early age. He took part in music festivals in the city and got to know the local folk music. He grew up with his brother, the Azerbaijani composer Üzeyir Hacıbəyov . He was involved in the performance of his opera Leyli va Majnun , the first Azerbaijani opera, and this inspired him to write his own operas. This was followed by musical comedies, operettas, 50 yaşında cavan , 1910, Varlı , 1911, and Evliykən subay, 1916 . 50 yaşında cavan is considered the first Azerbaijani operetta. The first performance took place in April 1911 in Tbilisi . Performances in Baku, Naxçıvan , Yerevan and Şuşa followed. In 1932 he wrote the symphonic piece Kölə qadınların rəqsi . His opera Aşıq Qərib from 1915 was one of the first Azerbaijani operas. Here he succeeded in synthesizing Azerbaijani folk music with European music. It is one of his most famous works and is based on an Azerbaijani folk tale . In 1978 it was released on the Melodija label in a recording under the direction of his son Niyazi. Zülfüqar Hacıbəyov also wrote a number of cantatas. It has had a permanent place in the repertoire of the Azerbaijan State Academic Opera and Ballet House for many years . In 1935, together with his son Niyazi, wrote the music for the film Almaz [Diamond], the first Azerbaijani sound film. The two operas Nüşabə and Üç aşıq are unfinished. The honorary title to him in 1943 Honored Artist of Asserbaidschanischen Soviet Socialist Republic awarded . Zülfüqar Hacıbəyov collected Azerbaijani folk music. In this context he has collected and recorded around 150 folk songs. He held various positions, including on the radio committee, in the Palace of the Red Army , today's Philharmonic, and in various theaters and other concert organizations. After his death on October 30, 1950, he was buried in the Fəxri Xiyaban Honorary Cemetery in Baku. His house in Shusha has been classified as a historical monument of state importance.
