history
The company was founded in 1974 by Jürgen Schneider, today's chairman of the supervisory board, together with four employees under the name “AS Création Adolf Siebert Tapetenfabrik GmbH” in Gummersbach. The wallpaper factory was initially a sister company of the Gummersbach wallpaper factory Pickhardt + Siebert, today's competitor P + S international. In 1975 the first rotogravure printing press was put into operation in Derschlag. The direct export business started in 1984 and expanded in 1991 with the opening of Eastern Europe. In 1990 Schneider took over the company, which is still the majority owner of the AG.
The company premises in Derschlag did not offer enough space, whereupon it was necessary to expand capacity in 1996 by opening the site in the industrial area in Bomig . Since then, the greater part of production and the modern, fully automated high-bay warehouse have been located there. The main part of the administration is still based in Derschlag. In 1997 Indes home textile from Lemgo was acquired. In the same year the subsidiary AS Création (UK) Ltd. founded in Formby, England. In 1998 the company was converted into a public limited company. In 2001 the company took over the Augsburg-based fabric publisher Fuggerhaus, thereby expanding its fabric distribution business. The 10-color screen printing / gravure combination system was commissioned in 2000.
The company acquired three wallpaper wholesalers in 2004: in France (PPSE and Edirama) and in the Netherlands (Wandvisie). PPSE SA and Edirama SA were renamed AS Création (France) SA and Wandvisie was renamed AS Création (NL) BV.
In 2008 the joint venture OOO AS & Palitra was founded by AS Création and Kof Palitra, the leading Russian wallpaper manufacturer. The majority of the two French wallpaper wholesalers MCF Investissement SA and SCE SA were also acquired.
After a loss of € 9.3 million after taxes in 2014, a profit of € 3.3 million was made in 2015 and a dividend was paid out again.
Trademarks and licenses
The brands of AS Création include Architects Paper, livingwalls, AS Création and innova in the wallpaper division, while Fuggerhaus and Indes are the brands sold in the decorative fabrics division.
Since 2008 the company has had a new field of activity with Architects Paper. Wall solutions are implemented here that are specifically aimed at interior designers and planners. The majority of the collections are manufactured using special processes.
In addition, the company develops licensed brands with various fashion companies, designers, living and women's magazines. In 2005, the company presented the Esprit home brand license at Heimtextil. In the meantime, ten collections, including the children's room collection “Esprit Kids”, have appeared with this brand. The designer Lars Contzen presented his first wallpaper collection in 2007.
With the market launch of the new “Architects Paper” brand in 2008, the demand in the upscale and contract sectors in particular was to be met. In this context, the foundation stone was laid for the cooperation with the architect Hadi Teherani , who brought the first architectural wallpaper collection onto the market in the same year. The first collection was also developed with the Gruner + Jahr publishing house. The " Schöner Wohnen" brand , previously known primarily for interior design magazines in Germany, now served as the new brand for the wallpaper collection of the same name. In addition, new collections were designed with the licensed brand of the women's magazine Brigitte and the fashion brand Daniel Hechter. In addition, this year the company is presenting the first collection with designer Jette Joop.
In 2012 Architects Paper developed the LED wallpaper in collaboration with Ingo Maurer, which brings modern light design to the wall. The jury of the German Design Council honored this type of wall covering with the Interior Innovation Award 2012. The first wallpaper designs from the Porsche Design Studio bear a unique signature in the AP 1000 collection from Architects Paper.
The first VERSACE wallpaper collection was presented at the Heimtextil Fair 2013 in Frankfurt.
