AB Quintanilla

Abraham Isaac Quintanilla III , better known under the pseudonym A. B. Quintanilla (born December 13, 1963 in Toppenish , Yakima County , Washington ), is an American record producer , songwriter and musician of Mexican descent. He is the older brother of the " Queen of Tejano ", Selena Quintanilla-Pérez . Together with his two sisters Selena and Suzette, he played in the band Los Dinos, which was revived by his father Abraham Quintanilla .

Life

AB Quintanilla co-wrote some of the songs that made Selena successful. He also worked early as his sister's producer. After Selena was murdered on March 31, 1995 at the age of 23, he retired from the music business for some time and only appeared occasionally as a songwriter (including by Thalías Amandote ).

In 1999 his musical creative urge reawakened and together with Cruz Martínez (married to the singer Alicia Villarreal since 2003 ) he founded the band Kumbia Kings , which existed until 2006 when a legal dispute broke out between the two founders. Together with the guitarist Chris Pérez, the former husband of Selena, Quintanilla left the Kumbia Kings and founded a new band with the Kumbia All Starz , while Martínez dissolved the Kumbia Kings for legal reasons and immediately formed a successor band with Los Super Reyes .

But AB Quintanilla also occasionally stands for controversial actions. For example, once during a stage appearance he kicked a fan who had put his leg on the stage. He later clashed with security personnel at Mexico City Airport and called them "Fucking Mexicans". Because this scene was captured in a film that appeared on YouTube, this action aroused the displeasure of many Mexicans, with the result that he booed from the audience on his next appearance with the Kumbia All Starz in the northern Mexican city of Monterrey and left the stage prematurely.
