A. Huhnstock (* before 1778, † after 1806) is the artist 's signature of the gunsmith of the same name , who can be identified in Hanover from the end of the 18th century . Although he did not have the official title of “ purveyor to the court ”, he was the “favorite” for the manufacture of handguns for the personal use of the Guelphs around the royal family around King George III. of the Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland , the Prince of Wales and later King George IV and Adolph-Friedrich, Duke of Cambridge .
Life
Little is known about the youth of Huhnstock. He worked at the time of the Electorate of Braunschweig-Lüneburg ("Kurhannover") during the personal union between Great Britain and Hanover . In 1778 he was the contact person for renting an apartment at the Steintor in Hanover.
In 1791 he was listed as the “load master” of the smith's office in Hanover's old town.
From 1794 to 1798 Huhnstock was a master for the apprentice Heinrich Ludwig Grote , whom he trained as a journeyman.
In 1798 Huhnstock lived "in front of the stone gate".
At the end of 1806, the Neue Hannöversche Magazin recorded the “Rustmeister Huhnstock” as one of 16 members of the poor fathers for the Leinstrasse district in an overview of the poor relief of the general poor college.
Famous works
- Various Huhnstock pistols were found in the weapons collection of King Edward VII at Windsor Castle at the beginning of the 20th century .
- In 1992 a flintlock double rifle by A. Huhnstock was cataloged during an exhibition organized by the City of Bad Arolsen with the Museum Association Arolsen in cooperation with the State of Hesse and the Waldeck-Frankenberg district.
