ACO (singer)
ACO (born February 3, 1977 in Nagoya ) is a Japanese singer who is under contract with Sony Music Japan . She made her debut in 1995 with the single Fuan na no and her music was influenced by R&B up to her fourth album absolute ego , after which electro-pop predominated . She was best known for her collaboration with Dragon Ash on the single Grateful Days , which sold over 900,000 copies. Her most successful solo single is Yorokobi ni Saku Hana , which sold around 300,000 times in Japan.
Life
ACO was born in Aichi Prefecture, Japan , and attended Sugiyama Girls' High School in Nagoya . She sent her first demos to the label HIT STREET until she later switched to Sony and released her debut single Fuan na no in 1995.
From 1995 to 1998 ACO released three albums and six singles, but they weren't very high in the charts. It was only through the collaboration with Dragon Ash that she gained great fame. Her next single Ai Shita Anata wa Tsuyoi Hito could not benefit from it yet. Only the single Yorokobi ni Saku Hana , which was used as the title track for the series Suna no Ue no Koibito-tachi and was released shortly before their fourth album, made it into the top 10 of the charts. As a result, her album absolute ego sold over 100,000 times.
Their next album, material , came out in 2001 and showed a significant shift in their music away from R&B and pop. The album was produced by Adrian Sherwood and Skip McDonald , among others . After a two-year hiatus, her single Machi was released in 2003 and shortly thereafter her sixth album irony .
In 2005 ACO founded the band Golden Pink Arrow♂ in Germany together with Taeji Sawai ( 澤 井 妙 治 ) . So far only live performances have taken place. The first ACO mini album was published in 2006 and is entitled Mask . With this album there was another musical direction change towards electro pop .
