The AEW Energie AG , based in Aarau is a Swiss power company . It belongs entirely to the canton of Aargau and primarily supplies the canton with electricity . In addition, the company operates its own hydropower plants , has interests in various power plants and provides services in the areas of heat contracting , telecommunications and power supply . The company, which was founded in 1916 as the Aargau electricity company and transformed into a stock corporation on October 1, 1999, is a member of Axpo , in which it holds a 14.03 percent stake. AEW also receives the majority of the 4,000 GWh of electricity sold annually from it.
