The AFC Telford United (officially: Association Football Club Telford United ) is an English football club from Telford . The club, founded in 2004, is the successor club to Telford United .

history

Telford United was founded in 1872 under the name Parish Church Institute , but seven years later the name changed to Wellington Town . Under this name, the team won their first title in 1902 when they won the Welsh Cup competition. In 1906 and 1940 the club repeated the success. At the league level, however, the club only played in the regional area. In 1958, the club rose to the Southern Football League , at the time the top division outside of the Football League . With the incorporation of Wellington in the newly founded planned town of Telford, the club changed its name again in 1969 and ran from then on as Telford United. Under this name, the club won the FA Trophy for the first time in 1971 after a final victory over Hillingdon Borough .

As a permanent participant in the Southern Football League, Telford United was one of the founding members of the Alliance Premier League , today's Football Conference. In the following seasons, the club regularly occupied places in the middle of the table. He was more successful in cup competitions: in 1983 and 1989 he won the FA Trophy again, and the team also reached the main rounds of the FA Cup several times.

At the turn of the millennium, Telford United became increasingly professional. The club took over and went into liquidation in 2004. However, a new club was founded by the supporters under the name AFC Telford United, which received a starting place in the One North division of the Northern Premier League . The club rose twice within three seasons, reaching Conference North in 2007 . As second in the table, the team qualified for the relegation games , but failed there at AFC Barrow . In 2011 she repeated the runner-up, this time she was promoted to the Conference National .
