The Weltladen-Dachverband eV is the nationwide representation of interests of world shops in Germany. It emerged in 1998 from the predecessor organization AG3WL (Association of Third World Shops, founded in 1975). The Weltladen-Dachverband eV is a founding member of the Forum Fairer Handel eV and a member of the World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO). The seat of the association is Frankfurt am Main ; the office is in Mainz .

goals and tasks

The Weltladen umbrella organization is a fair trade organization in Germany. Its work is aimed at supporting world shops in the areas of policy, marketing / public relations, education, qualification and political work and ensuring the credibility of the fair trade of world shops. In addition, he is committed to the further development of fair trade in cooperation with other organizations at national and international level. The ten principles of fair trade of the World Fair Trade Organization form the substantive basis of the work of the Weltladen umbrella organization .

The Weltladen umbrella association has been organizing the Weltladen specialist days in Bad Hersfeld every year since 2012. With around 500 visitors, the Weltladen Fachtage is the largest meeting of world shops and organizations in Germany that are 100% committed to fair trade. As part of the Weltladen Academy, which was launched in 2011, it offers advanced training seminars for the mostly voluntary Weltladen employees on topics related to global learning. As part of its political work, the Weltladen umbrella organization develops political demands which it communicates to the public and political decision-makers annually on World Shops Day (2nd Saturday in May). Together with the Forum Fairer Handel eV and TransFair eV , the Weltladen-Dachverband eV organizes the nationwide Fair Week every September .

The most important work areas of the Weltladen umbrella association:

  • To ensure the credibility of the world shops, the world shop umbrella association creates the rules for their work and develops them continuously. It is recorded in the convention of the world shops. The Weltladen umbrella organization checks compliance with the criteria by regularly monitoring its members.
  • Review of potential suppliers for the world shops based on the world shop convention. Suppliers who meet the criteria and are recognized by the Weltladen umbrella association are included in the supplier catalog.
  • Weltladen specialist days in Bad Hersfeld
  • For the mostly voluntary Weltladen employees, he offers advanced training seminars on all questions relating to Weltladen work - since 2018 also as e-learning offers. One focus is on qualifications for educational work on topics of global learning and the development of offers for young people.

Structure and organization

The world shop umbrella organization is a registered, non-profit association supported by around 460 world shops and world groups.

The world shop umbrella organization has an annual budget of around 1 million euros. The funds are set u. a. together from the contributions of the members, the proceeds from the sale of educational and information materials, project funds from the cooperation partners and grants, primarily from the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and the church aid organizations Bread for the World and Misereor .
