The AIDC F-CK-1 Ching-Kuo ( 經 國 號 戰機 / 经 国 号 战机 ), also commonly known as the " Indigenous Defense Fighter ", abbr .: IDF , is a domestic production fighter-bomber of the Taiwanese Air Force .
history
The Ching-Kuo was developed to replace the obsolete F-5 Tiger and F-104 Starfighter aircraft. The original plan was to acquire the F-20 Tigershark , but this was not possible due to the US arms embargo. The Taiwanese government decided to develop its own fighter aircraft, which the AIDC (Aerospace Industrial Development Corporation) was commissioned to do . Since the transfer of technologies was not subject to the embargo, US technology flowed into the aircraft. Therefore, the aircraft is similar to the F-16 Fighting Falcon and F / A-18 Hornet fighter-bombers . Other companies that helped develop were General Dynamics, Garret, and Westinghouse. The company General Dynamics developed the airframe, the engine Garret and Westinghouse radar. The radar of the F-20, the AN / APG-67, has roughly the same performance as the AN / APG-66 of the F-16 A. There are multifunctional displays (MFDs) and a heads-up display (HUD) in the cockpit. and side controls equipped with HOTAS . HOTAS enables the pilot to operate all functions from the joystick as well as the thrust lever. The digital fly-by-wire system is triple redundant, the hydraulic system with 214 bar pressure is double redundant. The first flight of the aircraft equipped with carbon fiber brakes took place on May 25, 1989.
The aircraft has a rate of climb of 254 m / s at sea level, a performance that hardly any other aircraft type in the same price range can match.
Originally, the procurement of 260 aircraft, including a few two-seat trainers, was planned. F-16 Fighting Falcons from the USA and Mirage 2000-5 from France were bought as replacements . The procurement of both samples met with great resistance from the People's Republic of China , which saw them as a threat.
The first season was set up in 1993.
