Details

AKA electric was a brand name for electrical appliances from the German Democratic Republic. The letters "RG" stand for "mixer". With the RG28 you can not only stir, mix and puree , but also chop raw vegetables, grind scissors and open cans , for which additional accessories exist. The design comes from the product designer Kurt Boeser . A total of around 18 million copies were made, with both white, yellow and orange cases. After 1990 the production was stopped.

rating

Thanks to its robustness and durability, the RG28 is still in use in many households today. For a single device without accessories, at least 35 euros had to be paid in used goods shops in 2020, and 110 euros for a set with coffee grinder . In December 2020, in the test magazine of Stiftung Warentest , a 40-year-old RG28 received the ratings "very good" (1.0) for the load capacity, "good" (2.0) for the safety and "sufficient" (3.7 ) for the noise with which the RG28 could easily keep up with modern devices.

  • The documentary Are Mixers Going to Heaven? by Reinhard Günzler from 2016, using the example of the RG28, dealt with the contrast between robust and durable household items and the planned obsolescence that is often encountered today in the throwaway society .
