Privilege was a trademark of the Quelle company , now owned by the US household appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation .

history

Privilege razors produced by Moser

Quelle was Quellux's trademark until 1964 . Quellux was also a label for records before the Universum brand was introduced for sound carriers . The Privilege brand was registered by Quelle in 1964 and mainly comprised household appliances such as refrigerators , dishwashers , washing machines , stoves , radiators , sewing machines , typewriters , etc., but also pocket calculators . The products were often produced by well-known manufacturers. The case design has often been simplified compared to the original product to justify the price difference. This was not necessary for products from the GDR. Since they were not available in normal trade in the Federal Republic of Germany, the identification with a privilege nameplate was sufficient. For example, the typewriter “Erika electronic S3006” was offered as “Privilege electronic 1400”. Occasionally, small West German manufacturers were among the suppliers, e.g. B. Moser with razors. The Wigomat coffee machine "Wigomat 12" was designed as "Privilege KM 505" in the tank, which is made of non-transparent plastic, so that the water level could not be read from the outside.

In 2009, most of the devices sold under privilege came from Electrolux . In 2006, the brand had a market share of 23 percent for refrigerators in Germany and 29 percent for freezers.

After the end of the source GmbH

On November 5, 2009 it was announced that the Otto Group had secured the trademark rights to Privileg. On January 20, 2010 the Frankfurter Rundschau wrote: “Originally, the Media-Saturn parent company Metro wanted to buy the rights to the former Quelle trademark Privileg. (...) But the deal between Metro and mail order company Otto, who had taken over the privilege from the insolvent Quelle mail order company, failed at the beginning of January - allegedly because of different asking prices. ”In March 2010 Otto sold the trademark rights to the US household appliance manufacturer Whirlpool Corporation , which in future intends to produce refrigerators, dryers, washing machines and kitchen stoves under this name.

In Austria, Privileg household appliances have been sold again since the first quarter of 2011 via the newly founded Quelle GmbH.

Quelle's customer service is still carried out by the former Quelle subsidiary Profectis. Profectis and its 680 employees were taken over by the Wolnzach service provider RTS Elektronik Systeme on January 1st, 2010.
