The ALTOP publishing and sales company for environmentally friendly products has been dealing with the issues of environmental protection , corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainability since 1984 . The founders are Paul Wirkus, Edda Langenmayr and Fritz Lietsch. The publisher is based in Munich .

History of the publisher

In 1984 Paul Wirkus founded the ALTOP - bewusster leben - publishing and sales company for environmentally friendly products mbH in Munich. A year later, the first edition of “The Alternative Business Directory” appears. In 1988 the Alternative Business Directory appears for the first time as a separate edition in Austria and Switzerland .

In 1991 the Öko-Partner-Haus, the first ecological model house in Europe, was opened; 138 partner companies were involved under the coordination of ALTOP Verlag. The conception and technology are so innovative that the German Museum of Technology has used it as a model. In 1997 the Internet platform www.Eco-World.de was launched with an interactive shopping mall, address database and news agency. In 2001, the 13th edition of the ecological shopping guide “The Alternative Business Directory” appears for the first time with a new name: Eco-World. It is divided into ECO-Address and ECO-Magazin. In 2004 the publication “Sustainable Management in Germany - Companies Secure the Future” appears for the first time. Three years later, ALTOP Verlag publishes the first edition of the magazine “forum Sustainable Economics”, accompanied by the daily updated website www.forum-csr.net.

Four years later, the first English-language edition of “forum Sustainable Economy” appears under the title “forum CSR international”. In 2009 the ALTOP team organized five sustainability events such as "Sustainability despite (t) crisis" in Munich and Cologne or "ECO-Business meets Social Business" in Berlin with cooperation partners such as the German Nature Protection Ring (DNR), Vision Summit, Unicredit and many more in 2010 ALTOP Verlag publishes the practical guide "The CSR Manager" for the first time. In addition, “99 seconds for the future”, the video format, has its own page and its own YouTube channel. The internet format shows 99-second long statements by interesting people on topics such as biodiversity , green money, mobility, society, social business and water.

In 2010 Fritz Lietsch, managing director of ALTOP Verlag, was honored with the BAUM environmental award. ALTOP is co-organizer of SusCon 2010, the international conference for “Sustainable Business and Consumption”. Since 2011 ALTOP has been publishing the most important publication of the Federal German Working Group for Environmentally Conscious Management (BAUM eV): The BAUM Yearbook.

In 2012 the publisher published special prints and booklets on the following topics: Sustainable commercial building, the city of the future, e-mobility and Cradle to Cradle. ALTOP is co-organizer of SusCon 2012.

Products

The alternative business directory (today ECO-World) published by ALTOP (All Love To Our Planet) was the first market overview of ecological products and services in 1986. Since 2007 the ALTOP Verlag has published the magazine forum Sustainable Economy, a CSR and sustainability magazine for the German-speaking area. forum Sustainable Economy appears quarterly with knowledge from and for companies and politicians. Videos, events and other publications such as the BAUM Yearbook and the CSR Manager are also published by ALTOP Verlag.

ALTOP publishes books and yearbooks in the field of management and sustainability. Examples are “The CSR Manager - Corporate Responsibility in Practice”, a manual for the implementation of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in companies or the BAUM yearbook of the Federal German Working Group for Environmentally Conscious Management (BAUM eV). This is an information and communication tool for environmentally and sustainably oriented companies and prepares a key topic every year.
