AN / TPS-44

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The AN / TPS-44 is a military reconnaissance and guidance radar from the manufacturer Sperry for the view and identification of air targets in the L-band . It consists of a device container and a collapsible antenna and can be transported by truck, train, as a suspended external load on a helicopter or in an airplane.

The radar still uses the older PPI round view devices as well as linear view devices ( A scope ), has an interference protection system and can ensure extensive radar reconnaissance. There is also a secondary radar for friend-foe identification.

The radar device is part of a Forward Air Control Post (FACP), which was used in a tactical system for air surveillance during tactical operations in local theaters of war around the world. For example, this radar was used in Southeast Asia for tactical support in air operations. In such missions, the AN / TPS-44 worked in conjunction with a command post and a communication unit with tropospheric directional radios . The AN / TPS-44A radar is still in service in the US Air Force and in several other countries, including Argentina .
