The Agenzia Nazionale per la Sicurezza del Volo ( ANSV ) ( it. National Aviation Safety Agency ) is an independent Transport Authority of Italy . It is based in Rome .

According to EU Directive 94/56 / EC of November 21, 1994, the ANSV is responsible for investigating accidents and incidents in civil aviation in Italy. It gives detailed recommendations to avoid them. As long as it is not concerned with individual incidents, it carries out studies, investigations and measures for the general improvement of safety in civil aviation.

In order to maintain its independence in aircraft accident investigations, the ANSV is not subject to the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport or the Aviation Office ENAC . Instead, it is overseen by the Prime Minister's office . The ANSV is headed as an independent authority by a president who, together with four other people, forms the board of directors.

The ANSV was founded in 1999 on the basis of the aforementioned EU directive . Before that, the Italian Ministry of Transport was directly responsible for investigating aircraft accidents.
